musings-of-a-genius: I feel that Paul Ryan would be Mitt Romney’s best choice for Vice President. Mitt needs someone who has the conservative chops to back up his own lack thereof, but that doesn’t mean he needs a voracious right-winger hungry for Democrat flesh, it means he needs someone not vocally socially conserative. That cancels out Rick Santorum, Allen West, and Rick Perry, but ushers in Ryan, Ohio’s Rob Portman, and New Jersey’s Chris Christie (who is a supporter of civil unions). Plus, Romney-Ryan has a nice ring to it. I can’t see that happening for a couple of reasons, but one in particular. All political correctness aside, it would be just too damn white. I honestly believe any campaign would now be hesitant to put up a ticket that just has two white males. It’s entirely possible, but far less likely after 2008. Romney already has trouble with women, and for his sheltered rich white male stigma. Adding Paul to the ticket wouldn’t help with that at all. Personally, I’m going with Rubio. He’s young, popular, and would help with the huge Hispanic voting gap.
